In his pre-performance talk, Ian Page suggested that a concert performance should be “like reading the book, instead of watching the film”. His idea that, by stripping away all the business and distraction of an opera production, you can focus more purely on the music and libretto, struck me powerfully, and this wonderful performance by Mozart specialists Classical Opera resoundingly proved him correct.
